Daffodil Celebration and Wine Weekend
We have a great weather weekend coming up, a perfect chance to see the results of 150,000 daffodil bulbs that were planted last fall on Daffodil Hill! The event is both days this weekend, from 12-5pm, I will be there Sunday afternoon from about 1pm to 4pm, if any Cultural Pursuit members and guests would like to join me. There are a variety of activities to choose from, but here are a few scheduled events:
1:30pm – Tour of Daffodil Hill – Meets at the base of Daffodil Hill (see map below)
The New York Botanical Garden is 125 years old! To celebrate this milestone, the Garden is in the process of dramatically expanding the historic Narcissus collection at Daffodil Hill. Take a walk with an NYBG gardener and learn more about this project. Tours also at 12:30, 2:30 and 3:30pm.
Throughout the afternoon, there will be New York vintners offering tastings of their wines, available to all adults with a $5 wine glass purchased on site.

Wine Talks: (2 of the 4 offered)
2:30pm – Basic Principles of Wine & Food Pairing – Learn some basic principles you can apply that look to underlying characteristics of both to help you find a happier, easier-to-accomplish match. We begin with the predominant taste characteristics present in all wines and lead you to the flavor elements in foods that will—or won’t—complement them. And we’ll outline a few food landmines that might lead you to consider beer instead.
3:30pm – The Great Grapes that Make Wine & Where They Live – In this talk, we’ll explore six varieties that dominate the wine world: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. From there, we’ll open the world of grapes to your questions about other, less prominent or well-known vines.
12, 1, 2, 3, & 4 p.m – Unwind and Unplug: Music by Milton – The bluegrass and folk tunes performed by Milton add vibrancy to the Native Plant Garden Wine Weekend. More than just about anything in life, he loves a tune that you can’t wait to hear again, a story that takes you somewhere, and a singer that you can feel in your heart. You’ll feel this sentiment while you’re here.
