Saturday night, June 15th, was Caramoor’s Opening Night for their 74th Summer Music Festival. The weather was perfect – there was a cool breeze that would occasionally drift through the Venetian Theater. We looked forward to the evening’s performance: the Orchestra of St. Luke’s conducted by former Artistic Director Peter Oundjian, and cellist Alisa Weilerstein performing Antonin Dvorak’s Cello Concerto. The program began with Gary Kulesha’s Torque and the evening concluded with a fantastic performance of Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite.
I’ve been attending concerts at Caramoor since I moved to the area around the summer of 1990. What I’ve noticed over the years is how Caramoor has continued to satisfy the long-time patrons who have been supporters for decades, while also introducing and expanding musical genres and offerings as the audience interests grow and evolve. The facilities and grounds have been improved dramatically, the enhancements continue, and the focus always seems to be how to optimize the guest experience.
The performances, combined with the beautiful surroundings, provide a one-of-a-kind experience that attracts visitors from surrounding counties and New York City. A visit is perfect way to experience the beauty and character of lovely Katonah, and a very special way to spend a day or evening with friends, family and loved ones. When you visit, please allow time and arrange for a tour of the newly refurbished Rosen House, followed by a picnic before the performance – either your own or with selections from one of the gourmet meal providers and food vendors.
This summer season has particularly diverse offerings – classical, jazz, roots, vocalists, world music – so much to choose from. Explore Caramoor’s website and review their summer schedule, learn behind the scenes information about their artists-in-residence, Schwab Rising Stars, hear about the changes that are planned with Inspire: Enhance the Visitor Experience, and discover more about the various day-long festivals and music venues within the property. For lovers of music, gardens and art, this is a must-see destination, a perfect way to appreciate the idyllic surroundings of this part of Westchester County, New York.
Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts is a destination for exceptional music, captivating programs, and spectacular gardens and grounds. Audiences are invited to explore the lush grounds, tour the historic Rosen House, enjoy a pre-concert picnic, and discover beautiful music in the relaxed settings of the Venetian Theater, Spanish Courtyard, Music Room of the Rosen House, and throughout the magnificent gardens.
